How to Change bootable partition ?__
I have 5 Partition on my harddrive – 2 system partitions and 3 extended partitions. I install windows 7 in 2nd system partition, as windows 7 installation give “disk error” for 1st system partition. But previously windows 7 was in 1st partition.

Now When I format 1st system partition, Windows is not booting at all.

Then I try “Start Up Repair” using Windows 7 DVD. It successfully find the Windows 7 installation but it can’t fix problem.

I use “bootrec.exe/fixmbr” and “bootrec.exe/fixboot” from repairing console of Advance Repairing Options using Windows 7 DVD.

Please tell me I change bootable partition from C: to another drive(such as D: or E:).

[ While using Windows XP, I use fixboot (like fixboot G:) to change bootable partition.

Is there any such command or option to do so. ]

Solution:
Hey Divinemoon,

Try changing the Active partition from C to the second system partition where Windows 7 is currently installed so that when the computer starts up, it will load the appropriate operating system. After changing active partition, perform startup repair.

a. Open command prompt from Windows recovery option menu.

Refer: What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

a. Type diskpart at the command prompt.

b. At the DiskPart prompt, type in list disk. You will see the list of disk currently attached to your computer.

c. Now type in select disk n, where n is the disk number. In this example, disk 0 is selected.

d. Now that correct disk is selected, type in list partition to get a list of all the partitions on that disk.

e. To select the partition you want to set as active, type in select partition n, where n is the partition number.

f. Now that you have selected the disk and partition, mark it as active by just typing the word active and pressing Enter. Now the partition is set active.

g. Exit from the command prompt and run startup repair. Refer: Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

That should be it.
